Kathu Trip Report

Well it seems that things are nearing an end for the year. So it is time to tie up all the loose ends, dot the T's and cross the I's. So finding time for anything is nay impossible.

With our trip to Kathu done, and finally getting through all the road works. Here are the photos of the weekend.

When we arrived in Kathu we started off with Piet O, and his wife. This is the second phase of the angel. The next one should probably be the last. For now the progress is coming along quite well.

This is where I abandon hope and embrace despair, mainly since I have no idea whether this is right side up or the other way around. So let's hope this means what she says... I do like doing things different, and this is definitely such a case.

She contacted me for a meetup in Kathu, they both showed up, and both of them decided on a religious tattoo, fortunately this time I do know which way is up.

For her first tattoo she came around on the Gemsbok rally, and only had those four letter of her son's name, after she went through the horrible ordeal and surviving her painful tattoo, she decided to expand on it, this is the result.

It seems a crucifix always stays a classic design whether it is tribal, Celtic, Traditional or abstract.
It seems everyone involved with horses long enough and a love for tattoos eventually all get a horse for a tattoo.
She officially has more balls then the majority of men I have met, she sat for the outlining, details, colouring and shading in one sitting. She saw this design a while ago and waited almost 4 months to get it done.
This was NOT a full tattoo, this was originally just a few outlines that had some body added to it.
This is just the outlining of a Maori cross, after the next session it will probably have all the black and blue put in.

His homage to his sister's soon to be born young one. So here is hoping for the best.

Saturday and Sunday we crashed at Apples and Biance. Definitely two of the most social Mutts I ever encountered. All went well the entire trip except for all the roadworks and the worst possible service that SPUR Kathu has to offer!

Until the next upload, keep creative.

Postmasburg Trips Cancelled

Unfortunately I regret to inform you that the Postmasburg trip is cancelled, so if you had a tattoo at Postmasburg you will have to come to Kathu for any and all touch up works. This just makes more sense logistically. If you do have at least 5 people for new tattoos a trip can still be arranged directly to you.

So just let me know @ inkhammer@gmail.com to arrange all trips and make any appointments.

Busy editing will be uploading more pics soon.

Upington...

This is one of the reasons I love the people of this town! It seems they come up with weird and wonderful ideas. This is a few of the last couple of days again.

This is becoming quite popular lately, this was a freehand design and took about 15 minutes.

A Gemini, zodiac sign. Something fast to get me out of bed.

This was definitely one of the more interesting designs. I love Zombies, I love dead thing tattoos. In the spirit of Halloween this is what came from it.

Remember October is Halloween month, all tattoos to do with anything Halloween related gets discount till the last day of October. Hope to see you soon enough.

Olifantshoek Trip Reports

A single star gained 2 friends. Made it darker and rounded it off a bit more.

A freaky dragon done on his hand, the stencil came out quite crappy, had to fill the rest by hand, thankfully easy enough.
A tattoo I finally came around to finishing up, took a while to get all the feathers done but worth it in the end.

Kathu Trip Report!

On Friday we arrived in Kathu, much later than expected since we had about 4 road works sections of the most boring waiting sessions known to the civilized world.  When we finally arrived in Kathu we stayed with Piet & Ilize Friday and Saturday night, and I have to admit they know how to cook fish!

The first one brave enough to sit down,She started off with this naughty little angel. Only one done for Friday evening.
A touch up just to get the red, more red and smooth out the blacks. No idea where he got it originally but at least now the lines are so much smoother.
Rallies are built for loving here is more proof!
One of the 2 friends, travelling pretty much everywhere, came for her expansion as well.
A tiger done a while ago, now just a tad more colour put to it.
Another homage to his daughter, one of the more sensitive spots for heterosexual men. Chest is sensitive area for any man.
The first stage of the angel, lining done, next up is shading and finer details, honestly can't wait.
This is a cover up... Just forgot to take the image of what is was beforehand. Thankfully this totally covers up the previous tribal.

A Quick Fix

There is a reason I love doing this, and that is the diversity of people you get to work with, I have a certain preference, but it is great seeing so many people of so many walks of life interested in the thrilling pain of a tattoo.

I funky skull with enough attitude to make almost anything else feel less secure.

Another client from Springbok, lovely people, we sat down, threw a few ideas around and after a while this is what we came up with. The image is a tad dark, but normal due to the blood.

On the left is a small rose and on the right... Not a rose.

I am currently working on the updates of the Kathu / Olifantshoek trip, and it should be uploaded soon enough.

October Arrived!

Well this week ended up with some  really interesting designs,a few custom ones and a hell of a fix.

Well the dragon had some work done again, as you can see the wings and face got mostly work done for some depth, so the next step would be the details on the body and tail.

This skull definitely has an interesting twist to it. Though a word to the wise, this is NOT a lucky tattoo, bout three days later the guy got hit on his bike. Then again he only has a few minor scratches, so it MIGHT be a lucky tattoo ;)
One of the smallest geckos I have done in a while, this gecko fits halfway on a toe to put things into perspective.
3 Custom roses, this took 1 hour and 40 minutes including the breaks. I recorded the entire process and consider uploading a version that has been severely cut just to give you an idea of the process.
The tribal tattoo seems to have it's popularity still in check. With the variety of designs it is definitely one type of design that will never lose popularity.
This is another cover up, from an artist that had a shop in Upington, unfortunately his scarring made it difficult since scar tissue makes putting in ink quite challenging. This is the 1st step of the cover-up, it will have more shading and some colour done eventually.

I will be uploading a video for after-care, just going over the basics of what to do and what not.

PS: Since this is Halloween this month there is discount on all scary tattoos.

Last Week of September...

Well it is almost the end of September. Things are looking great, better sterilization tools have arrived. Considering a promotion or two, so if you have an idea, mail it to me inkhammer@gmail.com.

This design was as interesting as the person receiving it! She traveled the world, and seen more temples and ancient sites that I can name. Was a pleasure!
It is always good to work with someone who knows what she wants. Well she knows every intricate detail and expands with it as she gets the chance. Very interested to see where evolution is going to take this one.

This is a small peek at the back piece in progress. More colour, more detail and more details added as we go.
After years of marriage and still wanting your husbands name! Someone definitely did something right.

If you know what the abbreviation is for, you will definitely understand.

For a brief time, I had a brief history of war. Not exactly what they describe in the movies.
Unfortunately this is the one tattoo design that I hope would not get more popular, but it seems lately I am doing it too often.

That's all for the week that I can actually upload, until next week!

Postmasburg Trip Report

Well our Postmasburg trip turned out to be much busier than originally thought. For the weekend we stayed at Duppie & Rynet Du Plessis. I would like to thank them for their hospitality and a place to sleep during the hectic weekend!

I started off with a design that he wanted, and we started just before midnight Friday evening, after about 5 to 6 gruelling hours this is what we ended up with after his 1st session. This is the man with more balls than anyone I previously encountered. He sat for the entire time, with hardly any breaks. His next session we will be getting his blacks blacker, and adding some colour.
His wife decided on a small and elegant design, something I think fits her quite well.
One of their friends showed up and wanted a small fairy. Took much longer than expected, but then again, with certain jobs you just have to be that extra bit more patient.

Her 1st tattoo ever. She was nervous and expected way too much pain. After sitting for a few minutes she got comfy and all continued without a whimper.
This is the 1st bit of work, for a larger piece that has been done, it took around 3 hours, and so far much more progress was made than what I expected was possible.
This rugby player had his 1st done, after looking at the design for a while it starts to grow on you.
Friends sometimes wear matching clothes, hair accessories or a variety of things. What do others have?

Matching tattoos.

If you look closely on the picture on the left, there is a tiger... Really, I promise.

The cover up is in progress and will take another sitting or two to be completed.

I would also like to thank Rynet & Duppie Du plessis for their much needed hospitality over the course of the weekend.

Trip Warmup!

A few warm up for tattoos for getting ready for the Posmasburg trip.
All this happened just before I left.
A regular that just had her fix for a tattoo.
An official addiction if you look at it.

Husband of the regular for his fix ;)
After initially forgetting to take a picture we expanded a tad before taking a picture for the upload.

After his work on his arm and need of balance this is what happened.

All the way from Springbok for a quick random tattoo.
